Week 3 - 10th February

Hello, welcome back! Thank you so much for choosing to read my update again. Sorry this is late, I’m still playing catch up from a few hectic weeks, I’m getting into the swing of things now, but I still have a lot to do.

Allora

This week has been super fun and productive. At the start of the week I still hadn’t met up with Allora, however, I assisted them with their photoshoot on Tuesday which was super cool. I really enjoyed doing this, being able to attend a photoshoot for their campaign which I’m involved with, seeing the shots develop and their vision for it really got my creative brain working too. I can’t for everyone to see the shots that we took (these will be out soon).

I did however get to meet up with Shira and Caty on Sunday to go through the promotional and marketing campaigns that I had come up with. We had a really good conversation about what the year looks like, what content we want to produce and bounced some ideas off one another and decided on some content (I don’t want to give too much away - you’ll have to wait and see what’s coming because it’s really exciting).

Hopefully I should be seeing them soon to start filming (ooooo) and really get the campaign rolling. Some shoots have had to be pushed back unfortunately, so that means things are a bit behind.

Performance

Friday this week was the date of my onstage workshop in preparation of an upcoming performance, which didn’t initially go to plan. We are set to rehearse on Tuesday (the same as last week) but I got told last minute by a band mate that they couldn’t make it, so we rearranged for Thursday, but again, last minute I got told by another band member that they couldn’t rehearse for very long. I was a little bit stressed as we hadn’t rehearsed together with Ableton, and had only had one rehearsal, before possibly going on stage. We pushed on anyway and rehearsed with who we had for whatever time we had, then everyone came in as early as they could on Friday before the workshop, so it all worked out okay (except for the fact that I had a phlegm attack during the performance due to my awful cold). My band members are super lovely though, they do so much for me and work so hard for me, I really couldn’t do it without them. Things happen, plans change, which I understand, it’s about moving on and working with what you’ve got. I think it’s coming along really well, and it’s going to get so much better, so watch this space!

Here's a little snippet of the harmonies in the chorus of "Bags" (which you can also see on my instagram - @sabsmusic_)

My own artistry

This week was the week of writing songs. I finally feel like I’m starting to get into the swing of it. I wrote some really lovely and interesting chords (with the help of Merryn) like a Dsus2 7 (which we think is actually an A add 11, but Dsus2 7 sounds far more complex haha), but I did initially struggle with the lyrics. I had an idea for the setting of the song, but struggled to get going. First lines are always the hardest aren’t they? I’ve been playing around with it for a while now though and it’s really starting to get somewhere. I’ll post a voice note of what I’ve got so far. It’ll be called ‘Space 16/02’. Here’s a link to the page.

I started writing another song over the weekend which I’m loving, but don’t have any lyrics for yet, but I’ll post on the demos page here what I’ve got so far - it’s called ‘house party 34’. It’s what I’ve been using to write to on a loop, so it will progress quite a lot. I tried to combine the styles of Lorde and Lapsley, and wanted to set the scene so I added a sound recording of a house party which I found on freesound.org, I’m excited to see where it’s gonna go.

I’ve realised though that I really need to start properly producing now that I’ve got songs. I’m aiming to do a lot of bedroom producing, as I often feel more creative and less under pressure when I’m at home. I’m also aiming for the DIY, bedroom pop aesthetic because I really like it myself, and I feel that I can connect to my audience much better.

I also really need to get going on taking some pictures. I know exactly what aesthetic that I want, I just need to start taking them. Keep an eye out on my instagram because they will be along very soon (I promise).

Check back soon for another update of how things are going.

Thanks so much for reading.
